Lovely place for a few hours either adults only or with children. Free to enter, lovely crafts to buy, limited parking outside, 2 disabled bays, no cafe and not open on sundays
My first visit. Went to see Laura Carlin ceramics exhibition. Most interesting tiny almost votive statuettes, and tile work, especially the wall of the history of London... But then looked around rest of gallery... unusual way of displaying artifacts which I was quickly absorbed in, each for its own sake. Ended up watching a video on a road trip around the North East (?c1960s?) while a Juke box played songs from the era...unusual in a gallery to be gently swaying and singing along to pop music while admiring the exhibits!! Curator to be applauded for thinking outside the box.
This is a small but magical art gallery to visit. Tucked away in Gateshead, along the main route to Durham, or en route to a visit to see the Angel, if you are in the area, check to see what is being exhibited (free). You'll be surprised at the quality of the materials on exhibit, and these exhibits, whilst small, are always beautifully presented. The Low Fell area further up the main route also has plenty of eateries so it makes a pleasant drop-in visit even better. Very easy to get to on public transport - just a few stops. Get one of several buses from the main bus station at Gateshead Metro (transfare if travelling to Gateshead via Metro, or a Day Pass.
This is a great little art gallery for a small town and is an old and interesting building. It exhibits a wide variety of artworks and is well worth a visit if it's showing something that interests you.
A lovely place to visit with a wide variety of interesting and well displayed exhibits. Well labelled and lit. A variety of children's hands on areas and a painting/craft group happening too, fantastic. Free parking outside and green spaces around but sadly nowhere to get a coffee. The library and tourist info place along the road had a lovely cafe where we got a takeaway (not dog friendly, even outside on the balcony)
